We weren’t thinking about starting this new stage with a new look, but we already needed it: we have gone to the hairdresser.
Our hairdresser is Pan Wojtek, a big and kind man who shakes your hand with a big smile and invites you to sit in one of the red plastic garden chairs which are in a small room that in Spain could be considered as a very old styled hole.
When I show the hairdresser the hair style I want by pointing with my finger in the photo of the model in the magazine he gave me, he looks like he understood and starts cutting without almost any further question… but it’s not true: he never understands that what I want is not only the same hairstyle than the model but also the same amount of hair as she, the same taste in making up and dressing, her same bra and throusers’ size, a similar face and, probably, her age…
Fortunately Pan Wojtek got at least the first thing right… we look nice!

We go on hollydays!!
We will go to France, Valencia, Burgos and… who knows were else???
We’ll be back in Warsaw on August the 29th.
Have a nice time without us!!

During the last couple of years I had a laptop which I carried with me whenever I had to work outside my home. I have always liked that sense of freedom. Couple of months ago I have finished my master degree and started PhD thesis. And I spend most of the time in the office where I have my own PC. So the obvious problem occurred. Now I have two computers: in my home and in the office and I want to keep them synchronized. I just like to have my personal space inside the computer which I can carry with my and not to worry if I have forgotten something or not. My documents, my mails, etc.
So I had an idea of doing it with pen-drive. But not only to carry my documents on it but also to launch programs from it. Than I have run into post Programs Designed For USB Drives and my experience started.
Today I’m using my pen-drive with a lot of applications:
- have my mail with Portable Thunderbird
- navigate the web with Portable Firefox
- chat on Gadu-Gadu with Miranda-IM
- ftp/sftp with FileZilla
- ssh: putty
- Foto viewer with IrfanView
- Programming: Movable Python
- windows diagnostics with Process Explorer
- disk diagnostics: DiskSpeed32
- anti spyware: Ad-Aware
- trace rooter: PingPlotter
As some of the stuff that I carry on usb-drive is valuable to me I keep in encrypted with truecrypt. And to have my desktop look&feel “travel with me” I use bbLean.
And not to forget: everything is open-source or at least freeware.
Now whenever I want to go to some place I just take my pen-drive with me and that’s it. Almost always there is some computer to plug-in.
I know that with laptop I could go whenever I want but the point is that I have realized that most often the places where I want to work have some PC’s already.

Couple of weeks ago when I’ve been finishing the design of our page I have been swearing at IE (Internet Explorer). It’s because it doesn’t fallow standards and, among many, doesn’t show transparent images like *.png. So I had to think about tricks on how to force IE to show my page the way I want it. And it’s amazing that there is probably a lot of web developer all over the world that are spending a lot of time just to tune their pages to display well in IE even thou they design them well.
So please help them and forget about IE! It’s insecure, old, doesn’t follow standards and makes lives of a lot of people harder! Couple of days ago beta version of IE7 was released – just for the limited number of Web developers. And it is already obvious that none of standard issues are really solved.
So I suggest as Paul Thurrott to boycott IE!
And switch to for example Firefox. It’s easy to install (take after all IE history, bookmarks, etc.) and has a lot of nice extensions. Among them I like most All-in-One Gestures which allows to “execute common commands using mouse gestures” and Adblock which blocks all unwanted advertisements. So you can see your favorite pages without having to accept flashing, annoying, irrelevant and most often stupid adds.
So Spread the Word! and download it today.
