[es] LINGUISTIC SUBREALISM
“I need something to help my husband with his cold, he has a headache, he is tired and his nose….“- I stop here, pointing at my nose and looking in my head for the words to say in English, he is having a runny nose, while the chemist answers: “I see, is only the feet?“
“Necesito algo para ayudar a mi marido con su resfriado, le duele la cabeza, está cansado, y la nariz le…“- me interrumpo señalándome la nariz, y tratando de recordar cómo se decía “moquear” en inglés, mientras la farmaceútica me responde: “entiendo, es solo en los pies?“

[en] SPAIN, THAT HUGE COUNTRY
- “Oh!, so you are from Spain?” - ask one of the mothers in the playgroup I go* every week with the kids for us to socialize a little in this foreign country.
- “Hola!” - says in Spanish - “the girl who cleans in our place is also from Spain and, when she comes, she always says “hola!”
- “You have a Spanish cleaner?” - I ask very surprised by the idea of someone emigrating so far away from Spain just to earn for the crust by cleaning houses.
- “Oh, yes!”, and asks her friend: “Margarita is Spanish, isn’t she?”
- “Yes” - her friend confirms - “where exactly?…. hmmm…. from Chile!”
* I’d rather say, I was going
- “¡Oh!, ¿así que eres de España?” - me pregunta una de las madres del grupo de juegos al que voy* con los niños cada semana para que, tanto los niños como yo, nos socialicemos un poco en este país extraño.
- “¡Hola!” - dice en español - “nosotros tenemos una limpiadora española que, cuando llega, siempre dice “¡hola!”
- “¿Una limpiadora española?” - pregunto, extrañada de que alguien haya decidido emigrar tan lejos desde España para ganarse el pan limpiando casas.
- “¡Oh, sí!”, y se vuelve hacia su amiga: “¿verdad que Margarita es Española?”
- “Sí” - confirma su amiga - “¿de dónde exáctamente?…. hmmmm…. ¡de Chile!”
* mejor dicho, al que iba.
